That's my life ...

Guru Geri in Malaysia

I was in Malaysia with Barbara and Sabine in 1983. We took the train from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur. There we got into a shooting, had to dig into the ditch. We were welcomed as guests by a family who showed us the city.
From Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, where we wanted to exchange money because we only had Euro-checks left. We hitchhiked to that place.

  • After the money exchange back to Malaysia by thumb. We hitchhiked up at the east coast. We camped wild on beautiful beaches, stayed with some families, made a tour in the rainforest national park. Once I was very miserable, because I had a food poisoning. With a family I could cure myself.
  • Were at a dragon boat race and an Indian-Hindu celebration with daggers through the cheek celebration. Everything was very different and adventurous.
  • The second time I was 28 years later in Malaysia, with Klaudia on Borneo in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan, where I had an invitation from the University for the School of Sustainable Agriculture to discuss a concept for research. We were on Borneo for a total of 7 days, it was very interesting to be right in the heart of the discussion about rainforest and renewable energy (palm oil). It was devastating how the landscape is dominated by palm oil trees (1 million ha) and how the jungle was erased to produce our "clean" fuel. We were at the Orang Utans, in the slum of Sandakan, on an eco-tea plantation and diving at Kota Kinabalu.
